SAP Analytics Cloud and HANA data warehouse implementation for an engineering and construction firm

Company Overview

A privately owned electrical engineering and construction company headquartered in California, operating nationwide across electrical installation, engineering, energy, renewable solar plants, commercial projects, and data centers. The business employs more than 3,800 field and office staff building projects across the country, with major offices in three California locations.

Before: Reporting Spread Across Disconnected Sources

  • The organization ran a non-SAP system as its primary ERP, with reporting data spread across several sources.
  • Leadership needed a single enterprise data warehouse capable of drawing from all of those sources rather than reporting from each one separately.
  • Spreadsheets sat at the center of core planning processes, which limited both speed and reliability.
  • Executives had no consolidated, real-time view of the business to forecast against or make decisions from.

The Solution

The organization selected HANA Cloud Platform as its enterprise data warehouse, with all integration handled through smart data integration and dashboards built in SAP Analytics Cloud. Source systems, including the incumbent ERP, were integrated into the HANA Cloud Platform warehouse, and the Analytics Cloud dashboards were built and tuned on top of that foundation. Troubleshooting covered dashboard performance, interfaces, and automated job scheduling so the platform ran reliably day to day.

After: One Platform, Real-Time Visibility, Confident Forecasting

  • Data unified from multiple sources, on-premise and cloud, into a single solution with one point of security configuration.
  • Spreadsheets eliminated from core planning processes, with data from multiple departments consolidated into a single source of truth.
  • Self-service data visualization and analysis enabled for planning, delivered fast and captured in one place.
  • Role-based access established, so teams are assigned cleanly and analysis is shared by function as well as by seniority.
  • Executive forecasting improved through simplified real-time dashboards using augmented analytics and predictive features.

Efficiency Gains

  • Real-time reporting replaced periodic manual consolidation, cutting wasted time and cost.
  • A transparent view of the business, drawn from live data that executives can drill into and investigate rather than take on trust.
  • Scenario testing and issue response made possible in real time.
  • Predictive visualization available to analysts, with historical data enrichment producing more accurate forecasts.
