The 2027 deadline is a custom code problem
Mainstream maintenance for SAP ECC 6.0 ends in 2027. Most organizations understand the date. Far fewer can answer the question underneath it: how much of what runs in your system today was written by you, how much of that still runs unchanged on S/4HANA, and what does it cost to find out?
That question is why S/4HANA programs slip. The custom code inventory takes weeks to compile and is out of date by the time it lands. Remediation is quoted per object by people who have not yet read the objects. Testing is the first thing cut when the go-live date tightens. Each of those is a manual bottleneck, and each one is now something software can do faster than a team can.
What agentic AI means in an SAP context
Agentic AI is not a chatbot bolted onto your ERP. An agent is given a defined job, the access it needs to do that job, and a standard it has to meet. It reads your actual ABAP, your actual integrations and your actual process documentation, produces a concrete artifact — a scored inventory, a rewritten program, a test case, a tuned report — and hands it to a human to approve.
The difference from traditional automation is scope. A script checks for known patterns. An agent reads a 4,000-line program it has never seen, works out what it does, identifies why it will break on S/4HANA, and rewrites it to HANA-optimized, S/4HANA-compliant code while preserving what the business relies on. The economics change: work that was priced in consultant-weeks starts being priced in runtime minutes.

We do not ship AI output to your system unreviewed, and we would not advise anyone who did. Each of the five offerings runs the same way: the agent produces, an SAP architect who knows that module reviews, and nothing reaches your transport path without a named person signing it off.

Will AI rewrite code we then cannot maintain?
The output is standard ABAP held to your own naming and structure conventions, not a black box. If anything, remediated code tends to be more maintainable than the original, because the agent also strips the dead branches and undocumented workarounds that accumulated over fifteen years.How do we know the rewritten code still does the same thing?
That is what the automated testing offering is for, and why we usually sell the two together. The agent that rewrites a program can also generate the regression tests that prove functional parity before and after. Without that evidence, remediation is a leap of faith.Do we need to be on S/4HANA already?
No. The landscape assessment is most valuable before you commit to a migration path, because it is what tells you whether brownfield, greenfield or selective transition is the honest answer for your estate.Can you work alongside our existing SI?

Before any agent runs, we agree three things in writing: what it can read, where that data is processed, and what is retained afterwards. Code extraction can be scoped to specific packages rather than the whole system. Production data is not required for code remediation or performance work — those run against the code and the runtime statistics, not against business records. If your organization has a position on AI and data residency, bring it to the first conversation.
